The Earth Deserves a Day Off
What if the earth could speak? What would it tell us?
Our bodies speak to us through aches, pains, and disease to let us know when something is out of balance. Consider that the earth speaks to us like that, too. Lately, it has had a lot to say. For most of us in our lifetime, it is unprecedented to experience so many hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, tornadoes, and more with such frequency and devastation. It's like a human body that has multiple ailments. We humans have doctors to help us get better. Who takes care of the earth? Pretty much we humans. Our planet is telling us something is not working. Some people don't believe in global warming. We can get so stuck in arguing about whether global warming exists that we become distracted from listening to the planet to hear its needs. It’s like two parents fighting over whether a child’s diagnosis is correct while in the meantime the child receives no treatment. So how do we take care of our planet? It is our home. If our planet was our child, wouldn’t we want to do everything in our power to help him or her get well? Often we get sick when we are stressed and our bodies are over-taxed. When that happens, the doctors tell us to rest, relax, and reduce stressful activities. Maybe take a much needed vacation. One way we can take care of our planet is to give it a vacation from the stresses we humans put on it. That’s what Give the Earth a Break Day is all about. Take a stand for our planet and help give it a day of vacation from its stressors. Pledge something you will do to lessen your impact on the planet on Saturday, November 24. Take action to go beyond the earth-friendly activities you normally do. It is just before the holiday season in many countries, a time to reflect, give thanks for what the planet has given us, and give back. Think about how you can continue lightening your footprint throughout the holidays. On behalf of Planet Earth, thank you! |
There are so many simple things a person can do that, in combination with the efforts of others, would accomplish a lot toward our mission to relieve our stressed planet.
